To celebrate

It is only January 2nd, but still does not feel very 2014, no?

2013 was a great year, I can just be grateful.

It is important to take a minute to celebrate! It helps us realise all the good moments lived, all the people around us, the achievements we had... although there may have been difficult times also, it is always important to celebrate what made us happy.
 
You are part of my year: Thank you. We have been sharing moments from 2011 (viewing entries, I realised it was not 2012 as I first thought... time flies!).

Although we may not be aware that through this channel, inspirations, hopes and moments are shared ... I know you are there and you know that I share all this with love.

Colors in a little furniture

Summer colours made me think on doing something funny on this little piece:

Now I am thinking on painting something else on the sides... I have an idea already... let's see how next year finds it.

My first cover

I'm in a techniques testing stage, I guess ... I had a very nice piece of fabric that I bought some time ago to make pillows ... and the idea appeared.
This is the very first time I ever try to cover anything and to be totally honest, I haven't done any research. Just had the idea and the materials... so it has its imperfections.

I painted the little chair with latex and then added some details.

The patient side table

This is the story of a patient bedside table... It belonged to my aunt Porota and since it came to me has been waiting for a makeover in my studio. But the wait is over!

For 10 years we didn't have proper bedside tables, or at least as we wished them to be: as soon as we were married (and for a few years) we had two boxes, then two very economic light tables that I barely painted, for them not to look so basic and now... finally ... two night tables as want them to be.

The colours is not so usual... you are right. But the entire room makes everything harmonise ... or so we think with my husband and we are happy!
I painted with latex in two colors (Cranberry and Ciboulette from Colorin) and waxed it.

No, not my authorship. It must be the work of a skilled anonymous craftsman from distant latitudes.

Happy new year!

Happy new year! 2013 is already here! 

Every year leaves us with lots of moments we treasure: smells, colours, images, experience and feelings.
2012 was a year full of moments for me: some of them I liked, some I loved and also some of them I would preferred not to have. Through all that moments, my art was a way to live and express myself.

Lets treasure those moments and celebrate! I couldn´t find a better way than sharing with you a collage of some of the things I've done in 2012.
By doing this collage I found that painting was one of the ways I most used... I guess that I had a lot to express! :)

Every beginning makes me feel energised! and the best way for me to start 2013 was with two projects. Of course, at the same time.

A bedside table that is almost ready (poor thing, it has been waiting in my studio for more than a year for a proper makeover) and a painting (still only the sketch).

Later this week I will share more photos of the bedside table. For now, only a preview.

A bonus: these beautiful summer flowers are now near my studio entrance.

My studio today, recycled doors

Painting, I realized that I never showed you the door of my atellier.
We have recycled it (with my husband). It was painted with all the possible colors: blue, green, brown... it was quite a project, but I like how it looks now.

If I don't call myself an artist... who will?

All the doors and windows of the grill house were recycled by us.
Here is another sample... the other atellier door. This was really difficult, very old, with a lot of paint and one of the colors it had oil base. But it was worth it, a beautiful wood showed up!

My art is helping to fill the house

With a lot of details... this is how some of the things you saw me doing are looking now.

Do you remember this one... it is now almost full of magazines (decoration, art, gardening, all my beloved magazines found their place)... I love how the turquoise looks with the color of the walls, right?

Double project: little chair and a painted stone

These days I have been busy painting this little chair. This is a peek of what is coming next.
This new project is part of the series of works called "dejarse habitar" or "let live into you", like the chair of my art studio.
Is very important for me to be able to reflect through my art what I feel and think. I already told you how much I love to be surrounded by phrases.  Phases are so good to make a stop in daily routine and  think what we want, what we want to do or just laugh.

Meanwhile, I made a short stop to paint a stone with a phrase. "Enjoy life now, this is not a rehearsal".

Recycling a pine wood dresser

Another piece of furniture for my daughter´s bedroom...
We bought this simple dresser made of pine wood.
After sanding and painting it, changing the handles and polishing it, the new dresser is ready for her to fill it.

Our bedside tables

Our room is in process of change. Finally is its turn! 

We often change things. Sometimes consists of changing the location of a furniture, sometimes on giving a coat of paint. Change is good!

We have bought the bedside tables we are using now in a hurry. We paid almost nothing (they were really useful at that time to replace the boxes we had when we married) and I must admit, they are not really nice... but we don't want to be ungrateful, they were very functional. Now that we have gave thanks, we can let them go!

Today I got into restoring the bedside tables that I inherited from my grandmother .... nothing better than a furniture that keeps lots of stories.
