The Louvre - part 2

Botticelli: "Venus and the Three Graces Presenting Gifts to a Young Woman".

I love how Botticelli paints the eyes. When I first discovered Google Art, the first thing I searched for was "Allegory of Spring", and zoom right into her eyes.

If you like iconography and religious art, there is a very large collection of iconography painted on wood.

And the largest collection of Leonardo da Vinci paintings is also on the Lovre.

The Virgin and the child with Saint Anne - da Vinci
Portrait of a Woman: La Belle Ferronniére  - Leonardo da Vinci

The largest painting I have seen in my life: "The wedding feast at Cana":

The Louvre - part 1

This is the biggest museum in the world, and is in Paris.
It used to be a palace (it is actually, more than one and they are connected) and now has the most incredible and comprehensive art collection.
The palace itself is something amazing. Each room is decorated with the theme of the works of art exposed in it.

From the Egypt collection, what impressed me the most, was the everyday art collection.

If we keep walking, we will go from the Egypt collection to the Greek collection.
The roofs and walls reflects this also.
I can´t stop thinking on how many wonderful unknown artists worked in those roofs and walls.

A detail of the floor

Please take a look on those paintings... yes paintings, these are no relieves, but bi dimensional paintings.

Take a look to this one... lost in a corner of the roof... a painting... and a great work to make it look like an sculpture, right?

In this roof, true sculptures

A Bernini small work of art.

This museum needs to be walked with an audio guide!

An unfinished Michelangelo sculpture, originally made for the Vatican.

 A Canova sculpture detail.

Aphrodite, or the Milo Venus, as we know it.

Athens and the wonderful roof over the sculpture!

Lets continue in the next entry!

Orsay Museum

This wonderful museum in Paris, is famous for its impressionist art collection.
Not only the art collection itself, but also the building is a something to be seen, at least once in life time!
There are wonderful works of art of Courbet, Manet, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Cailebotte, Van Gogh, Gaugin... and many more.
If you are an impressionism fan and you have the chance to visit Paris, this museum is a Must do.
No pictures allowed inside the museum, so I wont be able to share photos of the paintings (follow the links to see some of them).... but I took a few pictures of the building... sshhh!

This was a family visit, even the kids had their audio guides. But each of us was impress with different things.... this is what most impress my little son (he took the photo):

"little detail " of one of the sculptures in the museum entrance

At certain moment in life we all decide which angle to approach art, right? He has decided his angle at an early age!
