Wheat Stacks

The landscapes in Normandy and Britany are to be painted. Every view is amazing and beautiful. I loved the wheat fields, before and after the harvest.

After the harvest is done, the rest remaining in the field is collected. Actually this job is performed by machines.
The wheat stacks look beautiful and perfect.

Back in the days of the impressionist this task was perform manually.
Many artists painted this fields and the wheat stacks.

I imagine Van Gogh in loved with the landscape...

Monet has painted an impressive wheat stacks series. As it was his life goal, the intention was to capture the reflection of light in different moments of the day.
I have selected three of his paintings on this subject: one at the end of the summer, one in the sunset and the last one with the morning light.

If you like this theme, you will certainly appreciate two french "realistic" painters, that also chose the field theme.

The first is Jules Breton: "The recall of the gleaners" shows in an idyllic way the end of a working day.

Jean Francois Millet in his paint "The Gleaners" shows a more realistic end of day.

In the next post the Sunflowers fields.
